Q: What does the project contain?
A: When the foundation Realdania in 2007 offered to invest around 700 million Danish kroner (2008 prices) in a car park with spaces for 1.000 cars and in the New Central Urban Waterfront it became possible to merge MEDIASPACE, the opening of the last part of Aarhus river and New Central Urban Waterfront into one project.

Q: How big an area is included in the project?
A: A big and very central part of Aarhus is included in the project, which covers Havnegade and Skolebakken to Kystvejen.

Q: Why MEDIASPACE?

A: MEDIASPACE is the working title of the new building that will contain the future Main Library and Citizens’ Services of City of Aarhus.

Q: What will MEDIASPACE contain?

A: The main content of the building is the new main library and Citizens’ Services (that is issuing of passport and driver’s license, national registration office, day care registration etc.) MEDIASPACE will harbour facilities that can contain:

  • Conferences
  • Theatre performances
  • Film showings and concerts
  • Learning activities
  • Media collections
  • Etc.

The remaining content is still being developed so if you have suggestions or questions regarding the content of MEDIASPACE you are welcome to contact us.

Q: Where will MEDIASPACE be sited?

A:  The address will be Honnoerkajen 1, 8000 Aarhus C – at the very spot where Aarhus Stream – surrounded by cafés and street-life – meets the sea. The siting is marked by a red spot on the map below:




Q: When will the project be finished?

A: The MEDIASPACE is expected to be finished in 2014 and the New Central Waterfront will be finished in 2015, completing the project.
